Open Exports & Privacy to create XML, JSON, PDF, or password-protected exports. Files are only created when the user chooses to prepare them.
Frequently asked questions
Does the app send my information anywhere automatically?
No. Household information stays in the app unless the user chooses to export and share a file.
What is the XML export for?
The XML export is intended for a housing counseling agency or other workflow that can import the structured file. Confirm with the recipient before sending it.
When should I use the encrypted export?
Use encrypted export when the receiving organization accepts a password-protected file and you want additional protection before sharing.
Why are some Get Help fields marked as more helpful for counseling?
Some fields help calculate the homebuying picture directly, while others are mainly useful to a housing counseling agency during intake and follow-up.
Can the app give housing or mortgage advice?
No. The app provides planning tools, educational resources, and structured intake support. It does not replace a HUD-approved housing counselor, lender, attorney, or tax professional.
Troubleshooting
- If an export button is unavailable, check that the required information or password has been entered.
- If a counseling agency directory search shows no results, confirm the state selection and try again later.
- If you need help finding a screen, open the in-app App Help assistant or the App Tour from the toolbar.
Official homebuyer education
The app's Guide tab links to official resources from HUD, CFPB, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, VA, and USDA. Those resources are the right place to start for general homebuying education.
